The 2007-2008 curling season at Bowling Green has come to end, but there are plenty of opportunities to curl during the summer.
The closest summer spiel is in the TropiCurl in Pittsburgh in early July. This is a great bonspiel that will include several teams from BG. Sign up soon. It fills up early.
Our GLCA partners in Knoxville, Tennessee host a the Rocky Top Open bonspiel in early June. This one is already full for 2008, but you can be added to a wait list, and keep it in mind for the future.
Those who would like to travel out West have several options. First, there is the Desert Ice Bonspiel in Scotsdale, Arizona in late April. Next, in early May, there is the Rocky Mountain Open Bonspiel in Ogden Utah - the site of the 1998 Olympics. Then, there is The High Altitude Bonspiel in Colorado Springs, Colorado over Memorial Day Weekend. In late July, Bismarck, North Dakota is the site of a huge Summerspiel. The Triangle Curling Club in North Carolina will be hosting a bonspiel on August 9-10. Finally, the wine country Northern California is the site of a late August bonspiel.
For the truly adventurous (who also must have deep pockets given the value of the U.S. dollar), there is the Ice Cup in May in Iceland. Truly a once in a lifetime opportunity
Most of these bonspiels take place on arena ice, and hot, humid weather can make for challenging conditions, but this is half the fun, and the parties are great!
For those of you wishing to hone your skills for next season, consider the Hot Shots Fantasy Curling Camps in Oakville, Ontario next August and September.
We will be back on the ice in Bowling Green for the Early Bird in late September. Check our website for more information.
